The Anjuman Intezamia Masajid Committee, overseeing Gyanvpai mosque in Varanasi, has challenged the Varanasi District Court’s recent order allowing Hindus to perform prayers in the southern cellar. Acting Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta instructed senior advocate SFA Naqvi to file an urgent listing plea before the Registrar Listing. Following this, an application has been submitted, and the matter is expected to be addressed soon. This development follows the Supreme Court’s refusal to urgently hear the Mosque Committee’s plea against the order permitting worship in Vyas Ji ka Tehkhana. The Varanasi District Judge directed the District Administration to facilitate Hindu rituals in one of the sealed cellars, complying with a directive from the state government in 1993. The order specifies arrangements for puja and fencing within seven days. The Mosque Committee claims that the administration’s swift actions, occurring at night, were intended to preempt any legal challenge by the committee.
