Meta gave rising costs as the reason behind the decision.
Meta has announced that it is increasing the price of the Oculus Quest 2 VR (rebranded as Meta Quest 2) headset by US$100 (≈₹8,000). The company has said that from August 1, the 128GB model for the headset will cost US$399.99 (≈₹32,000). The 256GB model will go for $499.99 (≈₹40,000) in the United States.
The previous price for the Meta Quest 2 was US$299 (≈₹24,000), but it is available in India for ₹34,512 on Amazon at the time of publication. When the new price hikes start in the US from August 1, it won’t be surprising if the Meta Quest 2’s pricing in India increases by a lot. This is because the Meta Quest 2 is not sold officially in India. These are third-party vendors who import the headset in India and sell them online at a higher price.
Meta also added in its statement that if you buy a Quest 2 headset from August 1 to December 31, you will get a free digital copy of Beat Saber. The game is on the PlayStation Store in India for ₹2,497.
Meta gave rising costs as the reason behind the price hike for Meta Quest 2:“[T]he costs to make and ship our products have been on the rise. By adjusting the price of Quest 2, we can continue to grow our investment in groundbreaking research and new product development that pushes the VR industry to new heights.”
